Most hostel review sites give you a star average and call it done. But “8.5 out of 10” doesn’t tell you if you’ll feel safe at the front door at midnight, sleep through the night, find your people in the common room, or get the WiFi to actually work for tomorrow’s call.
So we built something different.
What we do
We read hundreds of reviews per hostel, from Hostelz, Kayak, Reddit, traveler forums, and score every hostel on the dimensions that actually matter for your kind of trip.
Social vibe. Female safety. WiFi reliability. Bunk privacy. Late-night noise. Free breakfast quality. Dorm cleanliness. Staff engagement. Sixteen categories in total.
We don’t average it all into one number. We match it to your travel style.
Going solo? You get a different ranking than a couple. Working remote? WiFi reliability moves up. Light sleeper? Late-night noise score moves up. Hostel chain that’s a party machine in Berlin and a chill spot in Lisbon? They show up differently in different cities.
What we don’t do
- No paid placements. Ranking can’t be bought.
- No “sponsored” tier. The first hostel in our list is the best for you, period.
- No affiliate bias. Some booking links may earn us a commission. It never moves the ranking.
- No fake transparency. When we don’t have enough review data to score a hostel for a specific traveler type, we say so on the page.
Who’s behind this
Small independent team. Built by travelers who’ve slept in 100+ hostels across 30+ countries, and got tired of guessing.
If we’re useful to you, that’s the whole point.
For travelers who’d rather know what they’re booking. Smaller world. Bigger stories.
